Joseph T Ergastolo

Joseph (Joe) Ergastolo built his career at WLE, joining the firm right after earning his law degree in 1988 and becoming a Partner over twenty years ago. His complex business litigation practice focuses on real estate, antitrust, unfair competition and unfair trade practices, and breach of contract matters. In addition to representing clients in state and federal court and in arbitration tribunals, Joe works with clients on a variety of real estate transactions.

Known as an efficient and effective problem solver, Joe develops close relationships with his clients to thoroughly understand their businesses and industries to obtain the best results on their behalf. He attributes his many long-term client relationships to his responsiveness, and his ability to resolve complex problems and disputes expeditiously and cost-effectively.

Joe’s published decisions include United National Maintenance, Inc. v. San Diego Convention Center Corporation, Inc., 766 Fed.3d 1002 (9th Cir. 2014); City of San Diego v. Haas, 207 Cal.App.4th 472 (2012); and Empresa Constructora Contex Limitada v. Iseki, Inc., 106 F.Supp.2d 1020 (S.D. Cal. 2000). In addition to litigating disputes, Joe is a trained mediator and has represented clients in mediation and other alternative dispute resolution forums.

A leader in the legal profession and the greater San Diego community, Joe gives back by serving on the Board of Directors of CHARG, the Cortez Hill Active Residents Group, and San Diego Commons. He also served on the Board of Directors for Father Joe’s Villages, including serving a three-year term as its Board Chair; the San Diego County Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the San Diego County Bar Association, and as its President in 2012; and, on the board of SUSHI Performance and Visual Arts.

Joe has been named a “Super Lawyer” in business litigation several times and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Diego School of Law, where he teaches Experiential Advocacy.

He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Marquette University.
